COURSE OBJECTIVES
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis. Course participants will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and encourage that person to:
· Talk about declines in their mental well-being
· Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being
· Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis
· Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being
Module 1: Self-Directed - 2 Hours
· Introduction to the course
· Introduction to MHFA actions-ALGES
Module 2 and Module 3: In-Person Workshop - 8 Hours
· Practice applying MHFA actions to situations of declining mental well-being
· Guidelines for MHFA conversations with people from diverse cultures and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community
· Practice using MHFA actions in crisis situations
· Discussion on using MHFA actions for self-care
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
This 9 hour course opens with a self-directed module (Module 1) that focuses on the information and strategies that participants will discuss and practice throughout the in-person modules (Modules 2 and 3).
Course participants are required to complete Module 1 before participating in Module 2 and 3.
Upon registration, participants will receive a personal ACCESS CODE that enables access to the Learning Management System and the “MHFA Participant Reference Guide” which outlines MHF

September 10 marks World Suicide Prevention Day – a day to remember the lives lost to suicide, the millions of people who have struggled with suicidal ideation, and acknowledge the individuals, families, and communities that have been impacted. Each year approximately 4,500 Canadians die by suicide. Essentially, that's 12 people that die by suicide each day. More than 200 people in Canada attempt suicide every day.
Duelling Pianos Niagara is an "all-request-driven" piano show in which the audience becomes a very important part of the musical experience. It is an interactive concept incorporating various styles of popular music, impromptu comedy and audience participation. Every performance is unique because the audience requests driving the performance are different from the last.
